Apr 14, 2026

AveriSource is enabled by three decades of legacy application modernization experience and sophisticated technology that has processed over two billion lines of code. We support abroad array of modernization patterns and use cases, and, with over 70 different tech stacks, AveriSource supports an extensive list of legacy platforms, languages and databases, providing a single source solution for any modernization project.

Mainframe Insight Matters

IT evolution is moving at such a pace that our collective fear of missing out is a genuine concern. As AI hits the mainstream, no organization is exempt, and no legacy technology is off limits. Mainframe modernization and AI have been converging for some time, causing significant market shifts and ever-evolving usage patterns.

But what this opportunity means for each organization, and how to embrace it, may vary widely.

Are incumbent suppliers a safe bet? Are AI-native market entrants the next big thing? What model to use? What about data security and cost? More importantly, perhaps, do any of them really know about the legacy modernization challenges facing your organization?

Analyze This

As new trends emerge and technology evolves, insight is needed—which is where industry analysis matters. The role of a third-party expert opinion can offer:

  • Informed Decision-Making: They help organizations validate their strategy with external, objective data.
  • Reduced Risk: Buyers use them to vet vendors, reducing the risks associated with selecting a new technology partner.
  • Competitive Benchmarking: Companies use these reports to understand their positioning relative to competitors.
  • Trend Prediction: They provide insight into future industry shifts, helping companies prepare for upcoming market changes.
  • Visibility & Marketing: For vendors, being featured in an analyst report provides validation and improves brand credibility.

Industry analyst reports are particularly influential in B2B technology markets, where they act as a guide for technology buyers and investors.

The Voice of the Market

The mainframe market is well served both by industry analysts and vendor-commissioned studies, many of which are shared here on Planet Mainframe.

Another notable industry report is the regular ISG Provider Lens® which reports on the Mainframe and Modernization marketplace. ISG, a global AI-centered technology research and advisory firm, has just issued the Provider Lens® 2026 Mainframes – Solutions. The study analyzes the relevant software vendors in the global markets, based on a multi-phased research and analysis process, and positions these providers based on the ISG Research methodology. The study “evaluates vendors of specialized software tools designed for mainframe application modernization… [and] focuses on solutions that automate code refactoring, rewriting and re-engineering.”

According to ISG, “the global market for mainframe application modernization software continues to shift from isolated code conversion or re-factoring tools toward more comprehensive modernization platforms that support application assessment, transformation, testing and lifecycle governance.”

A New Leader Emerges

A noteworthy element from this report is a new name on the leaderboard. ISG has recognized AveriSource as a Leader in its ISG Provider Lens® 2026 Mainframes – Solutions. According to ISG, “AveriSource combines agentic AI with a deterministic approach to ensure requirement accuracy across diverse legacy stacks, providing innovation, automation and quality assurance.”

Underpinning technological capability is a strong services component, described by ISG as, “[AveriSource’s] consulting services guide programs from assessment through deployment, leveraging partner-enabled delivery and offering implementation and ongoing production support.”

Both technology and service elements are built upon a long-term and comprehensive foundation of project success: for more than 30 years, AveriSource has provided legacy mainframe and midrange application modernization expertise, and lessons learned from processing over two billion lines of code (LOC).

In today’s mainframe modernization maelstrom, how can an IT leader be sure which way to turn? One of the AveriSource core principles puts the user at the center. Rather than prescribing a single path, modernization strategy becomes a positive, flexible choice—not a mandate. To a hammer, everything looks like a nail. But if you have the complete toolbox available, you may more likely pick the right ones for the job.

Modernization Your Way

Mainframe modernization is a highly complex and notoriously difficult discipline. Choosing the wrong tools that dictate a certain way of doing things only makes it worse. Leaders are understandably keen to ensure they have flexibility and choice in their approach, and their technology, to support the path that best suits their organization and IT strategy.

At AveriSource, we describe ourselves as “Leaders in Legacy Mainframe and Midrange Modernization.” It now feels official.
