IBM Announces z/OS 3.2 to Power AI-Driven, Secure Hybrid Cloud Workloads
IBM has announced z/OS 3.2, the next release of its flagship mainframe operating system, planned for general availability on September 30, 2025. Built to take full advantage of the new IBM z17 platform, z/OS 3.2 is engineered to meet the growing demand for AI integration, cyber resiliency, and hybrid cloud readiness, while continuing to deliver the unmatched scalability, reliability, and security that enterprise customers rely on.
Key Highlights of z/OS 3.2:
- Fueling innovation and growth with AI
Designed to support both traditional and generative AI workloads, z/OS 3.2 leverages the Telum II processor, Integrated AI Accelerator, and Spyre Accelerator to enable real-time AI inferencing directly on sensitive data. This approach avoids the risks and delays of data movement, accelerating insights and enhancing decision-making
- Cyber resiliency and securing critical data
Built with advanced security features such as pervasive encryption, quantum-safe cryptographic algorithms, RACF user ID containment, and IBM Threat Detection for z/OS (TDz), z/OS 3.2 helps protect sensitive workloads against modern and emerging cyber threats. These enhancements are designed to safeguard data integrity, support compliance, and mitigate risks from future quantum-era attacks.
- Transforming and automating for efficiency
z/OS 3.2 simplifies IT operations through AI-powered workload management, predictive automation, and improved usability. The new z/OSMF Storage Management Plugin, along with enhanced REST APIs, offers a modern, intuitive interface for managing SMS structures. These tools streamline operations, reduce manual effort, and support skill development for the next generation of mainframe professionals.
IBM is offering an upcoming webinar on 29 July 2025 at 1:00pm ET for a deep dive technical overview of the new features and capabilities z/OS 3.2 has to offer. Register here.

Vertali APAC brings MainTegrity® CSF to Australia
MainTegrity Inc., a leader in mainframe ransomware protection, has announced a new partnership with Vertali APAC Pty Ltd to distribute its Cyber Security Framework (CSF) across the Asia-Pacific region. Formerly known as FIM+, CSF is the first integrated software solution for mainframes that can detect and remove ransomware, intercept rogue actions in real time, and soon, defend against data exfiltration.
Mainframes remain critical to industries like finance, healthcare, and government, storing massive volumes of sensitive data. As ransomware attacks become more frequent and lucrative, mainframes have become high-value targets for cybercriminals. MainTegrity’s CSF detects suspicious network connections—such as unknown IP addresses attaching to critical services—and can intercept an attack within seconds, halting it before significant damage occurs.
“We are excited about our partnership with Vertali APAC Pty Ltd bringing MainTegrity’s® powerful ransomware solutions to a wider audience in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Al Saurette, CEO of MainTegrity® Inc. “Vertali’s deep understanding of mainframe security… will be invaluable in helping organizations… truly protect themselves from the (real-time) threat of cyber-attacks and potential ransom demands.”
“Intercept a Mainframe Cyberattack in seconds and freeze the offending process eliminating extensive damage, that’s what we want to bring to the Asia-Pacific region,” said Dallas Newton, APAC Regional Director. “MainTegrity’s® CSF is an excellent addition to our Cyber Security portfolio of products and services, simply adding to our expertise in the mainframe and security domains with real IT security innovation.”
