June was a standout month for Planet Mainframe, as we turned the spotlight on Db2 for z/OS—a cornerstone technology of the enterprise world. This month’s campaign featured expert articles, technical deep-dives, trivia, and live events that brought together voices from across the community. Sponsored by Log-On Software, the month highlighted the evolving role of Db2 in a rapidly modernizing mainframe landscape.

In addition to growing our collection of Db2 content, we were able to engage the Db2 community several times this month. We kicked things off at the IDUG North America 2025 Conference, where the Db2 community gathered in full force. Conversations buzzed around modernization, AI-enhanced tooling, open source, and of course, the enduring power of Db2.

Planet Mainframe’s Virtual User Groups we continued the conversation with a session presented by Saurabh Pandey, Lead Product Manager at BMC. His talk, From Root to Leaf—Managing Index Splits in Db2, offered a detailed look at index management strategies and the performance implications of index splits. The session drew strong attendance and sparked some great follow-up questions. If you missed it, the video replay is available.

We’re not done yet. Joe Winchester, Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM z Systems, will join us on July 15 for a talk titled Db2 and Zowe: Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. He’ll explore how Zowe is creating a more open, integrated environment for working with Db2. It promises to be a practical and forward-looking session—registration is open now.

We published a series of new articles, each exploring a different facet of Db2 technology, from performance tuning to modernization, disaster recovery, and even the occasional wish list item (looking at you, IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator).

Some standout reads include:

Time to Rethink Db2 Disaster Recovery – A timely discussion about DR planning in today’s high-risk IT environment.
Caching Query Results with QuickSelect – A technical dive into improving Db2 z/OS performance through smart caching.
Inside Db2 for z/OS: How Optimized B+ Trees Power High-Speed Indexing – A behind-the-scenes look at the data structures that make Db2 fly.
Learning from SMF: Db2 Buffer Pools – Real insights from real data to help tune your systems more effectively.

We also took time to reflect on the human side of the technology. In Mainframe DBAs and the Modern Db2 Experience, we highlighted the work of Db2 administrators—the unsung heroes behind system resilience, performance, and uptime. See all the Db2 month content here.

All told, Db2 Month at Planet Mainframe was a celebration of the power, depth, and continued relevance of Db2. Special thanks again to Log-On Software for sponsoring the month, and to everyone who attended a session, shared a post, or contributed content. Whether you’re tuning buffer pools or exploring Zowe integrations, we’re glad to be your hub for insights, ideas, and community.

We’ll see you at the next user group and as always, keep an eye on Planet Mainframe for what’s next.
