Virtual CICS User Groups

Upcoming Virtual CICS Session

The Power of CICS Traces and Metrics

September 9, 2025

We will begin this Virtual User Group session with a high-level overview of IBM CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) 6.3, presented by Mark Cocker, CICS TS for z/OS Product Manager at IBM Software. Mark will highlight the most important updates and capabilities in the release in a concise 20-minute summary of what’s new and why it matters, we’ll move into an interactive Q&A and discussion.

The program will then feature Todd Gagle, Distinguished Engineer, AIOps & Automation at Broadcom Software, who will present “The Power of CICS Traces and Metrics.” While transaction tracing isn’t a new concept, reliably correlating data across the full lifecycle of a transaction has always posed challenges. Recent CICS enhancements address this by generating OTel spans that streamline the process. Broadcom will demonstrate how to enrich these traces with complementary metrics, delivering a complete performance view and unlocking the full value of end-to-end observability.

Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance or participate live, ensuring the session is responsive to their interests. This event is ideal for system programmers, architects, developers, and operations teams who want a practical understanding of the latest CICS TS advancements alongside real-world insights into observability.
