Building a Global Learning Engine: Amit Sharma’s Relentless Commitment to Access

Apr 8, 2026

Mainframe technology continues to evolve because of the dedicated professionals, educators, mentors, and innovators who drive it forward. We’re shining a spotlight on the individuals who are making waves—whether they’re advancing technology, mentoring new talent, sharing knowledge, championing modernization, or quietly keeping mission-critical systems running every day. These are the people shaping the future of mainframe. They come from all backgrounds and experience levels, but they all have one thing in common: they’re making a difference. Follow @Planet Mainframe and follow #pmfinfluentialmainframers to congratulate this year’s honorees, share your favorite stories, and spread the word.

Founder and Host,
The Tech Sharmit Podcast

Jaipur, India

For Amit Sharma, the mission has never been about visibility. It has always been about access.

Known globally as Tech Sharmit, Sharma has built one of the most consistent and far-reaching independent learning platforms in the mainframe ecosystem. His work reaches learners in more than 75 countries, but what distinguishes it is not just scale—it is discipline. Over the past four years, Sharma has maintained an unbroken publishing cadence, producing two pieces of content every day without interruption.

That consistency has resulted in a library of more than 3,000 videos spanning COBOL, IBM i fundamentals, web development, Angular, and modern enterprise integration. More importantly, it has created a structured and continuously evolving learning environment designed to remove barriers—whether those barriers are geographic, financial, or linguistic.

All content is delivered in both English and Hindi, a deliberate choice that significantly expands accessibility for learners often underserved by traditional technical education. As one nominator noted, “He doesn’t just teach technology—he removes the barriers to learning it.”

“He doesn’t just teach technology—he removes the barriers to learning it.”

Connecting Worlds That Rarely Meet

Sharma’s impact extends beyond instructional content. As host of The Tech Sharmit Podcast, he has created a platform that connects voices across the global technology landscape. With more than 100 published episodes featuring guests from 29 countries, the podcast brings together professionals from communities that rarely intersect—ranging from IBM Champions and Planet Mainframe contributors to Microsoft MVPs and Google Developer Experts.

This cross-community engagement is intentional. As a Google Developer Expert, three-time IBM Champion, Microsoft MVP, and Planet Mainframe Influential Mainframer, Sharma occupies a unique position across multiple ecosystems. He leverages that position to ensure the mainframe is represented not as a legacy platform, but as a relevant and evolving component of modern enterprise technology.

A Philosophy of Shared Knowledge

At the center of everything Sharma builds is a deeply personal philosophy:

“I strongly believe in Lord Krishna’s teaching—ज्ञान (Gyaan—knowledge) is the most powerful gift one can offer, and its true purpose is never to be possessed but to be shared. The highest form of leadership is mentorship, and the highest form of service is sharing without any स्वार्थ (Swaartha—self-interest). As a proud Bharatiya (Indian), I live by वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family) and निष्काम कर्म (Nishkama Karma—selfless action)—and it is this timeless wisdom that has shaped my journey, fuels my passion for the mainframe and IT community, and reminds me every day that when we lift others, we elevate the entire world.”

This philosophy is reflected not only in what he creates, but in how he creates it. Sharma operates entirely independently. Every video, podcast episode, and lesson is researched, recorded, edited, and published by him alone—alongside a full-time career. The result is a body of work that has reached hundreds of thousands of learners, many encountering mainframe technology for the first time.

Expanding the Talent Pipeline

By making education accessible, bilingual, and continuous, Sharma is contributing directly to one of the industry’s most pressing challenges: building the next generation of mainframe talent. His platform introduces new learners to enterprise computing, bridges traditional and modern skillsets, and reshapes how the mainframe is perceived across adjacent technology communities.

His influence is not driven by visibility or scale alone, but by sustained effort. As Sharma’s work demonstrates, showing up consistently can be its own form of leadership—one that quietly expands opportunity and strengthens the entire ecosystem.

An influential mainframer, Amit Sharma is helping ensure that no learner is left behind—and that the future of the platform is as accessible as it is powerful.
