Kyndryl Cloud Readiness Report: Hybrid Cloud Shapes the Future of AI and Enterprise Agility

Kyndryl has released its 2025 Cloud Readiness Report, revealing how enterprises are navigating a pivotal shift in cloud strategy that can fuel AI adoption and enterprise agility.

Cloud computing is now a more than $700 billion backbone of enterprise operations, yet 70% of CEOs say their current environments evolved “by accident, not design.” Despite this, investment continues to rise: organizations increased cloud spending by more than 30% over the past year, even as they face AI integration challenges, growing security demands, and new regulatory requirements.

“The gap between a reactive and a deliberate cloud strategy has never been more consequential,” said Nicolas Sekkaki, Global Cloud Practice Leader, Kyndryl. “With AI demanding seamless data access and governance requirements rapidly evolving, a hybrid cloud model is the differentiator that enables successful AI adoption.”

Key findings from the report:

Sovereignty and security are reshaping cloud strategy – 75% of leaders express concern about the geopolitical risks of storing and managing data in global cloud environments, while 65% have already modified their strategies in response to new data sovereignty regulations.

Hybrid and multi-cloud are now the norm – 84% of leaders intentionally use multiple clouds, and 41% are repatriating at least some data to on-premises environments — balancing control, performance, and compliance.

AI depends on deliberate cloud design – 89% of leaders say cloud investments have made it easier to use AI, but 35% cite integration challenges as a top barrier to realizing ROI. Organizations are increasingly turning to specialized infrastructure, including private AI or neoclouds, both optimized for GPU-powered AI workloads, to balance computational power with cost control.

Cloud security is evolving for an AI era. As threats rise — with 82% of organizations experiencing a cyber-related outage this year — enterprises are responding with more adaptable architectures and enhanced security capabilities. 91% say their cloud infrastructure provides the flexibility to adapt to new regulations, and 75% are investing in AI for cybersecurity — more than any other AI capability.

The report emphasizes that cloud architecture now determines how effectively enterprises can maintain control, meet regulatory demands, manage costs, and integrate AI securely. As organizations blend public and private environments, hybrid models are becoming the preferred foundation for balancing performance, governance, and trust.

Rising use of agentic AI is driving this shift: many organizations train models in public clouds for scale, then deploy them in private settings to meet sovereignty and compliance needs. Security and data-location requirements are shaping design choices rather than limiting them, and both hyperscalers and enterprises are adapting infrastructure to support secure data movement across borders and providers.

Findings from Kyndryl’s surveys of senior leaders highlight how companies are reassessing their cloud environments amid AI-driven demands, the need for stronger security, and evolving governance expectations.

IBM and Groq Partner to Accelerate Enterprise AI Deployment with Speed and Scale

IBM and Groq have announced a strategic go-to-market and technology partnership to provide clients with access to Groq’s inference technology, GroqCloud, on watsonx Orchestrate. The companies plan to integrate and enhance Red Hat’s open source vLLM technology with Groq’s LPU architecture, and IBM Granite models are expected to be supported on GroqCloud.

IBM states that enterprises moving AI agents into production continue to face challenges with speed, cost, and reliability, particularly in regulated sectors. The partnership combines Groq’s inference speed and access to open-source models with IBM’s agentic AI orchestration to help organizations scale AI more effectively.

GroqCloud, powered by its custom LPU, delivers more than 5X faster and more cost-efficient inference than traditional GPU systems, providing low latency and consistent performance for large workloads.

This is especially powerful for agentic AI in regulated industries. In healthcare, for example, IBM clients handling thousands of simultaneous patient questions can use Groq to deliver real-time, accurate responses. In non-regulated industries like retail and consumer packaged goods, IBM clients are applying the technology to HR agents to automate processes and improve employee productivity.

“Many large enterprise organizations have a range of options with AI inferencing when they’re experimenting, but when they want to go into production, they must ensure complex workflows can be deployed successfully to ensure high-quality experiences,” said Rob Thomas, SVP, Software and Chief Commercial Officer at IBM. “Our partnership with Groq underscores IBM’s commitment to providing clients with the most advanced technologies to achieve AI deployment and drive business value.”

“With Groq’s speed and IBM’s enterprise expertise, we’re making agentic AI real for business. Together, we’re enabling organizations to unlock the full potential of AI-driven responses with the performance needed to scale,” said Jonathan Ross, CEO & Founder at Groq. “Beyond speed and resilience, this partnership is about transforming how enterprises work with AI, moving from experimentation to enterprise-wide adoption with confidence, and opening the door to new patterns where AI can act instantly and learn continuously.”

IBM will offer access to GroqCloud’s capabilities starting immediately.
