IBM and Globalfoundries Settle Lawsuit Over Contract
GlobalFoundries (GFS) and IBM have reached a settlement resolving all litigation between them, including breach of contract, trade secrets, and intellectual property claims. The details of the settlement are confidential, but in a joint statement, both companies expressed satisfaction with the outcome. This settlement ends their legal disputes and opens the door for future collaboration.
The lawsuits stemmed from GlobalFoundries’ acquisition of IBM’s semiconductor plants in 2015, with IBM suing GlobalFoundries in 2021 over a $1.5 billion contract breach, and GlobalFoundries counter-suing IBM in 2023 for allegedly misappropriating trade secrets.
“We are pleased to have reached a positive resolution with IBM, and we look forward to new opportunities to build upon our long-standing partnership to further strengthen the semiconductor industry,” said Dr. Thomas Caulfield, president and CEO of GF.
“Resolving these disputes is a significant step forward for our companies and will allow us to both focus on future innovations that will benefit our organizations and customers,” said Arvind Krishna, Chairman and CEO of IBM.

Software AG Group
Software GmbH, the holding entity of the Software AG group, has announced the completion of the sales of Alfabet and Cumulocity. This follows the company’s earlier divestments of webMethods, StreamSets, and TrendMiner during the summer. As part of this strategic shift, Adabas & Natural (A&N) and ARIS will now operate as standalone businesses, each with its own management team.
A&N specializes in high-performance, non-relational transactional database software, processing billions of transactions across platforms such as mainframe, Linux, and the cloud. ARIS provides cloud-native process modeling and process mining solutions that assist enterprises in managing their entire process lifecycles.
Both A&N and ARIS will focus on product innovation and talent development to accelerate their growth. This restructuring comes as Sanjay Brahmawar steps down as CEO of Software GmbH. Brahmawar had been instrumental in acquiring StreamSets and webMethods and overseeing the divestments of TrendMiner, Cumulocity, and Alfabet. His departure marks a significant milestone in advancing the standalone business strategy for A&N and ARIS.
