New Dell Disk Library (DLm) Models Accelerate Mainframe Storage
Dell Technologies has announced the availability of two new models of the Dell Disk Library for Mainframe (DLm), the DLm2700 and DLm8700. These powerful new models feature enhanced Virtual Tape Engines (VTEs) with 60% more processing cores, 32Gb FICON mainframe host connectivity, and 25GbE storage connections for improved performance.
The DLm solution from Dell builds on its legacy of mainframe storage innovation, introducing Universal Data Consistency (UDC) to synchronize mainframe tape and disk data, resolving longstanding data inconsistency issues.
Additional features like mainframe snapshot Data Protection (zDP), Cyber Protection Automation (zCPA), and cyber intrusion detection (zCID) enhance cyber resiliency and disaster recovery. The new DLm models deliver improved performance, storage efficiency, and cloud-based flexibility, providing a robust solution for mainframe users.
In partnership with IBM, Dell Technologies supports the mainframe ecosystem, addressing the evolving needs of major enterprises. Dell DLm and PowerMax are compatible with IBM z16, which features the IBM Telum processor.

BMC Software recognized in the 2024 GigaOm Radar Report
BMC has been named a Leader in the 2024 GigaOm Radar Report for AIOps by Dr. Shane C. Archiquette. This placement recognizes the industry-wide AIOps leadership and innovations of the BMC Helix platform.
The report evaluated 29 vendors based on “capabilities and nonfunctional requirements.” BMC’s Helix IT Operations Management (ITOM) with AIOps was rated an “Outperformer” due to its rapid feature development over the past year and a robust roadmap for the next 12-18 months. BMC was also positioned in the Maturity/Platform play quadrant.
The report highlights BMC’s AI-enabled incident resolution stating, “BMC Helix ITOM is a general-purpose AIOps solution and its primary use cases center around IT operations. However, additional functionality is built on the platform’s generative AI foundation, and its strong AI capabilities allow AI-assisted troubleshooting, remediation, continuous integration, and discovery.”
It goes further in explaining BMC’s AIOps advantage for issue resolution, stating, “BMC HelixGPT can analyze past incidents and recommend the most likely resolution steps, as well as summarization and explainability, using HelixGPT for clusters of events.”
As an area of improvement, The report highlights BMC’s lack of support for security information and event management (SIEM) or security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR), though it mentions that BMC can integrate data from SIEM vendors. However, since the release of the report, BMC has announced new vulnerability management capabilities to help resolve exposures faster with risk and impact analysis.

IBM Open Enterprise SDK for Python 3.13 keeps current with the latest Python open-source community release and is enabled to the z/OS Container Platform
IBM Open Enterprise SDK for Python 3.13 is a port of the open-source Python Software Foundation (PSF) community 3.13 release. It is a 64-bit XPLINK application with enhancements for EBCDIC support. This popular Python open-source language helps you take advantage of z/OS platform to accelerate business transformation and modernization by enabling powerful frameworks for Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML), DevOps, and automation.
What’s new in the IBM Open Enterprise SDK for Python 3.13
Enabled for the IBM z/OS Container Platform:
Open Enterprise SDK for Python 3.13 is now enabled in the z/OS Container Platform. This establishes a development environment that streamlines Python deployment, scalability, and management in a containerized environment.
Added to z/OS 3.1 as a bypassable requisite:
IBM announced the addition of Open Enterprise SDK for Python along with IBM Z Open Automation Utilities (ZOAU) and IBM Open Enterprise Foundation for z/OS to z/OS 3.1 as bypassable requisites as of July 1st, 2024. This helps IBM Z clients adopt these emerging technologies to accelerate their mainframe modernization strategies. These offerings are now available at a no-charge license and with no-charge Software Subscription and Support (S&S).
