SHARE Kansas City Registration, August 4-8

SHARE Kansas City is rapidly approaching, and it’s a great time to get registered if you haven’t yet. Planet Mainframe will be exhibiting and recording on-site interviews and podcasts, and we hope to see you there!

For inspiration, check out this episode of The Six Five Webcast, in which host Steven Dickens talks with Scott Fagen, President of SHARE, about the upcoming event in Kansas City. You can also look over the technical agenda or read the latest SHARE Headquarters blog. Here’s an excerpt:

“Mirroring the must-have elements of Jazz, technical sessions at SHARE Kansas City (Aug. 4-8) will provide mainframers with the instruments and blue notes they need to flex their improvisation muscles in harmony with the rhythm of their careers. Enterprise data storage is a key element of business operations today and moving that data from one location to another can be daunting. In their “I’ve Got to Move How Much Tape Data? By When?” session on Aug. 5 at SHARE Kansas City, JP Lavigne, product manager at IBM, and Steve Pryor, chief technology officer at DTS Software, will answer mainframers’ questions about moving data to new devices.”

Registration Categories:

Non-Member: Individual registrations include full access to the SHARE event including all session proceedings and select recordings.

Speaker/Volunteer: Discounted registration options are available to individuals who are speaking or are in a volunteer position with SHARE.

Student: Full-time students are eligible to register at no cost. Students must provide a copy of their current class schedule showing 12 or more credit hours and a valid student ID card.

System Z Enthusiasts Discord re:ipl Event in Kansas City

For those in Kansas City for the SHARE conference, the System Z Enthusiasts Discord (and Seven9s) is hosting an evening event, called re:ipl, in Kansas City on August 6th @ 7p.

According to event organizer, Steven Perva, re:ipl is an event focused on the mainframe community and the sharing of ideas, solving problems, and collaborating organically without vendor influence. The event strives to bring a truly hybrid experience to the “water cooler” style events you may know and love.

To prepare for the event,  re:ipl organizers are encouraging participants to incubate a topic, prepare a short presentation, or get plugged into Discord (https://discord.gg/sze) so you can lead a discussion of your own. re:ipl follows an unconference model where individuals are empowered to create a space for topics that are meaningful to them either virtually or in-person.
