In a recent YouTube post, Connor Pekovic a mainframe programmer at a large insurance company, addressed the question of whether pursuing a career in mainframe is a good idea in 2023. Among the positives he has experienced, he lists high-level mentorship, the opportunity to work at a major corporation, and job security. The shortlist of drawbacks includes limited exposure to new technologies, but on the whole, Pekovik sees mainframe work as a solid foundation for a career in IT.
