Craig Mullins has over three decades of experience in mainframe and database systems development and administration. His first experience working with the mainframe occurred during an internship at US Steel during his junior year of college. Since then, he has tackled numerous roles, including programmer/analyst, database administrator, courseware developer/instructor, software company executive, industry analyst, and independent consultant.
Mullins has worked with mainframe systems his whole career, developing COBOL applications for Db2 and IMS and working with Db2 on the mainframe since Version 1. While experienced in working with database and mainframe technologies, he is most passionate about writing. “Perhaps my most enjoyable projects have been writing books on Db2, database administration, and mainframe optimization,” he said. “ You learn a lot by writing, and I sure did, but I also expand my circle of experts when readers reach out with questions and comments about my books!”
Craig has authored numerous blogs, articles, and books including the best-selling Db2 book, Db2 Developer’s Guide, and his most recent book, Mainframe Specialty Processors. For his work and contributions to the industry, IBM has appointed Craig as a Gold Consultant for Db2 and an IBM Champion for Data & AI.
