At the Planet Mainframe trivia challenge, we’re always up for a bit of mainframe pioneer history! Today we’re looking at the life of John von Neumann (1903–1957), a brilliant and versatile thinker whose work touched many areas of science and technology.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, von Neumann was a math prodigy who went on to earn his doctorate at the University of Budapest. After moving to the U.S. in the 1930s, he made groundbreaking contributions to areas like game theory, quantum mechanics, and even the Manhattan Project. Von Neumann also developed the architecture that became the foundation for computer design, influencing mainframes.

Take our quiz and learn about von Neumann’s foundational work!
